5 Levels of Car Wash and What You Can Expect to Be Doing in Each

When it comes to car washes, the first thing that pops up in people’s minds will vary. For some, it could be high school kids washing cars for some money. For others, it could be large automatic washing services where you drive the car through to get it cleaned. While these can all be labelled as a car wash, each of them is on different levels, utilizing various equipment, processes, and more.

If you are planning to start your car wash business, here are the levels you need to know about and what you can expect to do in all of them.

Level 1 – Hand Car Wash

The name says it all here. If your business is a level 1 car wash, you will do it all by hand. It also means you will have to do other tasks, such as looking for cars to wash and ensuring all your supplies are ready. If you have any employees with you here, you will also have to supervise their work to ensure they maintain excellent quality service.

Level 2 – Self-Serve Car Wash

Level 2 car washing is quite the opposite of level 1 car washing. Here, rather than you doing the washing, the car owner does the washing on their own. How it works is that they will put some coins into a machine, which will then time them. During this period, they can soap, scrub, rinse, and vacuum their vehicle.

Your job here is simple. You need to ensure that all supplies are available, that the machines are operative, and that the facility is clean. Also, you will be taking the coins out and fill the bill changer with coins as well.

Level 3 – Car Detailing

Here, not only are you washing the cars by hand, but you are doing extra work to bring the car back to its brand-new look, inside and out. It will take a couple of hours to complete, but this service brings about the cleanest cars possible.

To operate a level 3 car wash, you will need to do the regular washing outside. However, you will also need to clean the interiors by waxing, vacuuming, and the like. Again, your job also includes ensuring that the cleaning supplies are always available and that your assistants are there on time to work right away.

Level 4 – Automatic Washing

Here, computers take over the washing process. While this method can remove a lot of burden off your shoulders, the results are not as spectacular as you might think. Since there are many mechanical things here touching the car, there is a risk that the vehicle can be damaged.

If you are going for automatic washing, your job is to ensure that all pieces of equipment are working. You must also address any repairs needed on the machines. Since the machine utilizes automatic dispensers for soap and wax, you need to make sure these are all filled. Also, because customers pay using the machine, you will need to collect the coins as well as refill the coin exchanger.

Level 5 – Touchless washing

In the final level, you combine only the high-pressure-water aspect of automatic car washing. Nothing mechanical will touch the car here, keeping the risk of scratching to a minimal. You and your assistants will do all the finishing touches.

Your job here is to ensure that the automatic system is working just as you would with a level 4. Making sure that there is staff to do the final cleaning is also part of your job.

Conclusion

It can be challenging to figure out which one you should adopt for your business. However, a simple way to answer this can be to figure out the demands of car washing in your area. For example, if you are in a distant area, handwashing will make more sense. However, if you are in the middle of the city, then automatic washing is an excellent idea to go through hundreds of clients quickly.
